Embracing the Journey – Coach Taylor

We love Motivational Monday!  It’s a fresh start to the week, and who doesn’t love inspiring quotes and stories?!  Today we are sharing a testimonial/message from Taylor Reinecker, who started as a member at CrossFit Gettysburg 3 years ago.  Taylor is also one of our coaches, and she loves motivating and challenging our members.  The first “before” photos were taken in 2013, about 1 month into Taylor joining CFGB, and the “after” photos were taken in July 2016.

“I’m not in shape.” “I don’t look like those people.” “I can’t do what they are doing.”

Trust me, I have heard it all. But hopefully after reading this post you will see that Rome wasn’t built overnight and anyone can do anything they set their minds to.

3 years ago I was looking for a change. I had played sports in high school and college, eating pretty much whatever I wanted. Fast forward to almost the end of college when an ankle surgery put me on the sidelines.  Weight gain and negative self-image ensued. Eventually a coworker of mine told me about this CrossFit gym that was opening up close to work. I decided to check it out, enter here the thoughts from the beginning of the post. Yes, we all have them. After talking to Jake (the owner of CrossFit Gettysburg) I signed up for the group foundations class. To this day it was the best decision I have ever made. CrossFit has changed my life, not just physically but mentally and emotionally as well. My body has made some pretty drastic changes. Sure, I weigh less and my physique is smaller but that’s just part of coming in the gym on a consistent basis and giving 100% each class. What’s even more impressive to me is what my body can do. Each day I am amazed how hard I can push my body and the results I get from that. I have been where each and every one of you has been. I couldn’t do a single pull-up, looked silly trying to kick up to a handstand, scared to death to climb the rope, and the thought of a muscle up was daunting. But, with dedication and hard work I have accomplished all of those things plus many other things I never thought I would be able to do. And the icing on the cake… I’m proud of me, the way I look, and what my body can do. My message to anyone readying this is – it doesn’t matter where you are starting, start today.  Get in the gym, meet the coaches, work your butt off with the abilities that you have, don’t worry about what other people think, and I promise you will get where you want to go.  It won’t be easy and it certainly won’t happen overnight but you can do anything if you want it bad enough!
